Let's talk about our team / Parlons de nous

Our  Team/ Notre Équipe ASK Cohort 5
We think that it’s only polite to introduce you to our incredible team! Over the past 3 weeks, the team have worked together to make a change in Koudougou in promoting the rights of People living with disabilities.

Emmanuel Koffi ADEKPOE
Beginning with team leader number one; our energetic, entertaining, all round funny-guy from Togo, Emmanuel, otherwise known as ‘Big Papa’. During the first weeks, Emmanuel has not managed to get through a day without saying ‘I am hungry’, as you can probably gather from this, he ADORES his food. Emmanuel studied British literature at the University of lomé-TOGO and Logistics at Ouagadougou.

Alioune Tolabounon BORO
On to our second fabulous team leader, Alioune. He is a previous ICS volunteer. Alioune studied marketing and project management in Ouagadougou. Not only is he passionate about human rights and making a change, but Ed Sheeran is also a huge weak spot for him, just look at his playlist..

Next is our glamorous, smiley ICV and IT officer Yeli. One reason Yeli is here is to improve her English. Yeli studied law at Catholic University of  west Africa, she is strong-minded and keen to make a difference in the community. Only three weeks in and Yeli has already shown great interest into the English culture; her beautiful bright dresses and outfits represent her colorful, outgoing personality.

Gareth BYLES
As we’re onto IT officers, here is one of our UKV’s, Gareth, aka, GareT. He has come all the way from Cambridge, England, only to find out that he has to bike an hour to  office every morning, it’s okay Gareth, think about those toned legs. Gareth has an uncanny resemblance to Harry Potter, but he won’t be using spells to help him make a difference in Koudougou, just his fierce determination and extreme kindness!

Sam AMINATA
Previous Accountancy student Sam is another of our exquisite ICV’S. Sam is also one of our Awareness Raising officers, her strong passion towards human rights are the reasons she has decided to volunteer. One thing stronger than her passions? Herself. (None of the other members of the team have seen her struggle with a bucket of water, and those are heavier than they look.)

Charley BARTLETT
Our second Awareness Raising officer is our crazy, outgoing, theatre lover, Charley, AKA, the Queen. Charley choose to become a volunteer to experience new cultures, meet new people and change lives. Charley comes into the office every morning full of energy and commitment, along with some awful jokes. Although, we’ll let her off, it’s probably just the anti-malaria tablets wearing off on her.

Armel Wafaama SOMDA
Meet Armel, English and French teacher, I guess that sort of explains why he knows more English than a UKV does … right? Our fantastic Armel is not only talented in the languages, but also spectacular at art, so spectacular he managed to gain the role of ASK’s Artist as well as a Training officer. And if you thought the list of ‘What Armel is good at’ was over then well, you haven’t seen him on the dance floor.

Charlotte MORGAN

Aight, it’s another UK volunteer, Charlotte, our northerner and vegetarian who also owns the role of a Training Officer. Math tutor and aspiring scuba dive instructor Charlotte has travelled far and wide and loves experiencing new cultures, the long drop is nothing she hasn’t seen before. Like Armel, she can really impress when on the dance floor, just whack on the Cha-Cha- Slide and watch the magic happen.

Vincent Hirépaor SOME
Our final ICV is Vincent, one of our sports officers. Before ICS, happy chap Vincent studied law at the University of Ouagadougou. One thing you should know about him is that he is exceedingly fond of eating pig meat and drinking Dolo (traditional drink). As soon as he leaves the office you can be sure of what is running through his mind. Vincent’s marvelous sense of humor and commitment is what ICS looks for.

Nicole MANN
So, you’re probably wondering who the other sports officer is and well, here she is; Nicole, a pizza loving 18-year-old girl looking to experience something new and exciting. Not entirely sure why she is a sports officer when she struggles to catch a ball, but one of the main ICS dimensions is flexibility, so she is  willing to work on it.

And there you have it, the current ICS cohort 5 for Action Sociale Koudougou. It has already been an amazing honor to be part of this culturally diverse team and learning about everyone within it, we are all so excited for what the future brings and hope that you follow us on our journey by reading our weekly blog posts.
