rencontre avec les personnes ressources des associations des personnes hanicapées / meeting with the comity of the associations of people livingwith disabilities
The very first week we worked on, planning classes and events as well as interacting with members of the local community during a meeting held on monday. We ask them what we could do to help them best effectively, for example building ramps in public places and inclusive sports are just some of the ideas they suggested that we should carry out in the coming weeks of our stay in Burkina. Initially the ASK office didn’t feel like ours so we immediately set about changing this by cleaning the office thoroughly and putting drawings on the wall (produced by our gifted artist Armel).

On Thursday the 25th of January we went to Koudougou stadium to watch handibasket training take place. Handibasket is also known as wheelchair basketball. We were all astonished by the speed, power and precision the game was played at and the accuracy of their shots were remarkable showing that their disability hasn’t held them back. We were eager to have a go and once the session was finished we immediately grabbed a wheelchair and wheeled onto the court soon realising what a difficult and gruelling sport it is.
